police rescue two colombian women from trafficking syndicate in lagos
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two Colombian nationals who were allegedly trafficked to Nigeria and held captive by a suspected human trafficking syndicate in Lagos.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the National Central Bureau (NCB-INTERPOL), Lagos Annex, following intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB Bogotá on August 26, 2026.
The victims, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were reportedly lured to Nigeria under false pretences and had their travel documents allegedly seized by suspected members of the syndicate, said to be Chinese nationals.
Police operatives traced the victims to a hideout in Lagos and rescued them on the same day. The suspected traffickers reportedly fled the location when they noticed the approaching security team.
The victims are currently receiving necessary support, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Colombian Embassy in Accra is also collaborating with the Nigerian authorities to arrange accommodation and emergency travel documents for the victims ahead of their return to Bogotá.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force's commitment to combating transnational organised crime and strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement agencies.
