ONDO POLICE RESCUE ABDUCTED 61-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, RECOVER STOLEN VEHICLE AFTER GUN BATTLE IN OWO

The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 61-year-old woman, Mrs. Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed hoodlums on 23rd June, 2026, following a coordinated tactical operation in Owo that also led to the recovery of her stolen vehicle.

The Command said that at about 2:50 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer of B Division, Owo, received a distress call reporting the movement of the armed gang suspected to have been responsible for the earlier abduction. Acting swiftly on the information, operatives were mobilised for a coordinated pursuit.

The team intercepted the suspects at the outskirts and bush area of Ojana Phase 3, where a gun duel ensued between the police and the armed hoodlums.

Overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled into the surrounding bush. Mrs. Oladele was successfully rescued, while her Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number WWW-434-AG was recovered.

Items recovered at the scene include two expended cartridges, a sandal suspected to belong to one of the fleeing suspects, and a torchlight.

The fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest members of the gang.

The case has been transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation, as timely information remains vital in the fight against crime.
