ISWAP Suffers Heavy Losses as Troops, Air Force Repel Coordinated Attacks in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have dealt another major setback to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), successfully repelling coordinated attacks and inflicting heavy casualties on the insurgents during a fierce engagement in Borno State.

According to the military, the terrorists launched simultaneous assaults in the early hours of June 19, 2026, targeting troops' positions at Dusten Kura and along the Chara Road axis in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area.

However, the attempted attacks were swiftly detected by troops, who responded with overwhelming firepower in a coordinated air and ground operation.

The operation received significant support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, with Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets and precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force playing a critical role in disrupting the terrorists' advance.

Military authorities said the close coordination between air and ground forces resulted in substantial losses among the attackers, forcing the surviving insurgents to retreat in disarray.

Notably, no casualties were recorded among the troops, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in both personnel and equipment.

The latest victory, according to the Theatre Command, highlights the combat readiness of Operation HADIN KAI and the effectiveness of the synergy between the land and air components in sustaining pressure on insurgent groups across the North-East.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to continuing offensive operations aimed at degrading the capabilities of terrorist elements and restoring lasting peace and stability in the region.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
