Ibori’s Daughter Survives Assassination Attempt During APC Congress in Delta
Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the House of Representatives member for Ethiope East/Ethiope West, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State. The attack occurred after Ibori-Suenu arrived at the newly relocated congress venue in Ovade, following tensions among party stakeholders.
According to eyewitnesses, thugs armed with various weapons attempted to prevent Ibori-Suenu from entering the venue. As she approached, gunshots rang out, causing chaos and panic among delegates and supporters. Ibori-Suenu’s security team formed a protective cordon around her, ensuring her safety. Several party members were injured, and some were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Ibori-Suenu remained calm after the attack, appealing to her supporters for peace and urging them not to take the law into their hands. Investigations are underway to identify the attackers, and political leaders are under pressure to restore confidence in the APC congress process.
This incident comes after Ibori-Suenu’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in 2024. She won the 2023 election despite political differences with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
