I Earned N374m in Salary, N10bn from Business, N958m in Gifts – Ex-AGF Malami Declares in Court
Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has revealed in court that he earned N374 million from salaries, N10.17 billion from private business ventures, and N958 million in gifts from personal friends. He made this disclosure as part of his effort to challenge an interim court order that directed the seizure of 57 properties linked to him.
Malami’s legal representative, Joseph Daudu, filed a motion at the Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting the court to lift an interim order that affected three of the 57 properties seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for forfeiture to the Federal Government.
In the motion, Daudu submitted details of Malami’s income, which he had previously declared in his asset declaration with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). These include:
N374,630,900 from salaries, estacodes, severance allowances, and other income sources.
N574,073,000 from proceeds of disposed assets.
N10,017,382,684 in business turnover.
N2,522,000,000 as loans to businesses.
N958,000,000 in traditional gifts from friends.
N509,880,000 earned from the launch of Malami’s book titled “Contemporary Issues on Nigerian Law and Practice: Thorny Terrains in Traversing the Nigerian Justice Sector: My Travails and Triumphs”.
Malami’s legal team has urged the court to consider these declarations in deciding whether to vacate the interim forfeiture order.
