Four Suspected Armed Gang Members Killed as Security Forces Recover Weapons, Explosives in Anambra

A police-led joint security patrol team has neutralised four suspected members of an armed criminal group during a gun battle along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The operation, carried out by the Aguata Sector Joint Security Patrol Team on the evening of June 23, followed intelligence reports on the movement of heavily armed suspects believed to be operating within the area.

According to security sources, operatives encountered the suspects during a visibility and confidence-building patrol, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which four members of the group were killed.

Following the operation, security personnel recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices, and other items believed to have been used by the group.

Items recovered include one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) loaded with 53 rounds of linked ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 29 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 13 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and four undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Operatives also seized police camouflage uniforms and accessories, a white Toyota Sienna bus with Lagos registration number KJA 919 KH, ten Android phones, two feature phones, a laptop computer, a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, power banks, assorted charms, live cartridges, ATM cards, a National Identification Card, and a driver's licence belonging to identified individuals.

Preliminary investigations indicate that several other members of the group escaped into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot wounds sustained during the confrontation.

Security forces have since launched extensive search and combing operations across the area to track down the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons and operational materials.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at combating violent crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
