Troops Kill Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons and Stolen Livestock in Sokoto, Katsina

Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh operational successes following coordinated offensives against terrorist and bandit groups in parts of Sokoto and Katsina states.

According to military authorities, the operations led to the neutralisation of several suspected Lakurawa terrorists, recovery of weapons, and the rescue of dozens of rustled livestock.

In Sokoto State, troops reportedly responded to a distress call over an attempted attack on a Nigeria Immigration Service facility in Ruwa Wiri Village, Tangaza Local Government Area. The attackers, identified as members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group, were said to have attempted to set the facility ablaze before security operatives intervened.

During the ensuing gun battle, two suspected terrorists were killed, while others reportedly fled the area after coming under heavy military fire. Troops later conducted a follow-up search operation within the area, recovering two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing assailants.

In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on patrol intercepted suspected terrorists moving with herds of stolen livestock around Danya Bakwai settlement.

Security sources said the troops engaged the suspects, forcing them to abandon 62 rustled animals before escaping into nearby bushes. The recovered livestock were later returned to their owners during a handover ceremony held at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.

Military authorities reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorism and banditry across the region. Residents were also urged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
