President Tinubu appoints Major General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and improving collaboration among security agencies in addressing emerging threats across the country.

Major General Fadewa is a retired senior military officer with more than three decades of experience in national security, intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.

The statement noted that between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he played a major role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

He was also credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA, a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve coordination among the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he contributed to research and policy discussions on policing, national security reform, and civil-security cooperation.

He is also the author of the monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which focuses on strengthening collaboration between civil institutions and security agencies.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general’s experience and strategic expertise would support ongoing efforts to improve homeland security, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management across the country.

The President also urged him to deploy his wealth of experience and professionalism in advancing the administration’s national security objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
