Security Forces Discover Suspected IPOB/ESN Arms Depot Hidden Inside Piggery in Enugu

Security operatives have uncovered a suspected weapons cache linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a joint intelligence-led operation in Enugu State.

According to military authorities, troops of the 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), carried out the operation on June 9, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal and terrorist networks in the South-East.

The operation, conducted in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, reportedly followed actionable intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects linked to IPOB/ESN activities. During the raid, security personnel uncovered a concealed arms storage facility hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.

A search of the location led to the recovery of a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas launcher with cartridges, multiple AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

Military authorities said all recovered exhibits, along with arrested suspects connected to the operation, have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The security forces described the operation as a major breakthrough under Operation EASTERN SANITY II, noting that it highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-sharing and inter-agency collaboration in combating threats to public safety and national security.

Operation UDO KA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal and extremist elements in the South-East and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
