Troops Repel Midnight Attack in Kukareta, Neutralise 24 Terrorists, Recover Heavy Arms Cache

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on Kukareta in the North-East, neutralising 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons during a fierce overnight battle.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of April 23, 2026, was launched against troops under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force. According to military sources, the assault began shortly after midnight and continued until about 3:00 a.m., but was met with a swift and coordinated response by alert troops.

The soldiers executed a combined offensive and defensive operation, effectively containing the attackers and forcing them into a disorganised retreat after suffering heavy losses.

Following the engagement, troops recovered a significant quantity of arms and ammunition from the battlefield. Items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two PKT anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large volumes of 7.62mm belted ammunition.

Military sources confirmed that two soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter and have since been stabilised. Additionally, one reinforcing armoured vehicle was damaged, with its tyres destroyed during the exchange of fire.

Troops have continued exploitation operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, where blood trails and abandoned medical supplies were observed, indicating further casualties among the fleeing insurgents.

The military noted that the operation underscores the resilience, combat effectiveness, and firepower of troops in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. Efforts are ongoing to consolidate gains and maintain sustained pressure on terrorist elements across the theatre.
