Operation Hadin Kai clears man earlier reported as terror suspect after investigation
Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has clarified the status of an individual previously reported as a suspected terrorist, announcing that investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist group.
The clarification follows media reports published on 14th July, 2026, concerning an individual intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation after the attack at Cross Kauwa.
According to the military, the individual has been identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi. He was taken into custody in line with standard operational procedures due to the prevailing security situation and the use of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics.
However, comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes established that Zein-Nur has no affiliation with any known terrorist organisation.
Further investigations revealed that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, and earns a living as a camel rearer beyond the River Komadougou.
Operation Hadin Kai said the individual has consequently been cleared of any terrorist links, stressing that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and thorough security screening to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action while upholding professionalism, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
