INSECURITY: AIRFORCE UPGRADES TRAINING CONTENTS IN RESPONSE TO NEW REALITIES

The Nigerian Airforce says it has reformed the training contents for its personnel accross board, so they can be combat ready and operate at optimum levels in a bid to counter both domestic and foreign threats.

Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao said the need to review the curriculum of its training institutions and facilities had become expedient, due to the exigencies of time. The CAS said these at the winging ceremony of some pilots and operators held recently, at the NAF HQ, Abuja.

He said NAF has rejigged the curricula of the various schools in the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) to meet expected standards, whilst also conducting instructional training for the instructors.

Amao said training curriculum for NAF cadets at the NDA has been reviewed. He also said the requirements bar has been raised and a new set of criteria for NAF officers to be eligible to function as instructors. He then added that some flying schools will be affected by the reforms as well.

He said: "I have authorized the audit of selected institutions in the NAF, including flying schools, by a team of experienced retired senior officers with a view to upgrading the practices and facilities at the institutions to meet international standards and best practices."

He announced plans to upgrade operations training facilities to enhance the operational capacity of NAF operators. This, he explained is in anticipation of increased tempo of air operations in some areas.

The NAF Chief then harped on the importance of joint efforts and synergy of air-ground operations with sister services. He said all these efforts are geared towards a pragmatic repositioning of NAF.

He concluded by stating that the idea is to build facilities where word class pilots, engineers, technicians and other specialists are produced.
