#ENDSARS: FORMER PRESIDENT, OLUSEGUN OBASANJO APPEALS FOR CALM FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND THE PROTESTERS

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has appealed for calm from both the Federal Government and the #ENDSARS protesters.

His appeal is coming on the heels of several reports of violence that has emanated from protests across the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 21, the former President appealed to both parties to eschew violence, embrace peace and dialogue in finding solutions to the challenges of the nation.

Obasanjo called on President Buhari to restrain the military and other security agencies from using brutal force as a way of ending the crisis.

He revealed that the shooting of unarmed protesters has never been effective in suppressing public anger and frustration, instead such actions close the window for dialogue and peaceful resolutions.

The elder statesman noted that great harm has been done but it can be stopped before it completely spirals out of control.

He says we are at a critical time and this phase requires mature leadership from the presidency.

Obasanjo stated that most of the demands from the youth to Governor Sanwoolu of Lagos State is not unreasonable but it can be resolved without hurting anyone's political ambitions.

The former President said the youths must also give the Government a chance while making their legitimate demands.

He warned them not to allow miscreants infiltrate their ranks and give them a bad name.
