BREXIT: NIGERIANS, GHANAIANS TRAVELING TO THE UK NOW REQUIRE AIRPORT TRANSIT VISA TO TRANSIT THROUGH FRANCE AND THE NETHERLANDS

Air France-KLM have reintroduced airport transit visa (ATV)requirements for Nigeria and Ghana citizens traveling to the United Kingdom with a British long stay visa or a British residence permit to transit through France and the Netherlands.


Nigerians and Ghanaians traveling to UK through KLM (Amsterdam) or Airfrance (Paris) will require ATV effective January 1, 2021 following the UK's exit from the European Union.


The affected nationalities would require the visa permit if they transit through France, and or the Netherlands, a notice released on Tuesday said.


The Dutch Minister of justice and Security has however waived the ATV requirement for Nigerians traveling on KLM with a valid UK visa to transit at Schiphol Airport until February 1, 2021.


Henceforth, Nigerians traveling to the 

UK are mandated to apply for the ATV in Lagos or Abuja. "Applications must be submitted to VFS, after making an appointment either with the French Embassy in Abuja (visas abuja ambaedplorratie gov tr) or with the Consulate General of France in Lagos (veas lagos diplomatie gouv) Processing time for these applications requires a minimum of 7 days," the notice said.

 

Citizens from the following countries are also required to get an ATV permit;


Afghanistan, Argola Bangladesh, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast Cuba Dominican Republic Eritrea Ethiopia, Ghana Guinea, Hati, Iran, Iraq, Map, Mauritania, Nigeria Pakistan, Philippines, Rusia (only Russians coming from Armenia Azerbaijan, Georgia Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Turkey or Egypt), Senegal, Syria Palestinians with refugee travel documents, Sierra Leone Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan and Sri Lanka.


However, citizens from the affected countries holding a visa and or resident permit from Canada, USA, or European countries can transit through France or the Netherlands without an ATV.
